Hülsen is a free-standing location in the north of the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal .

Location and description

The location is at an altitude of 276  m above sea level. NHN on the watershed of the river systems of the Wupper and the Ruhr south of the federal highway 46 . It is located in the neighborhood of Nachbarebreck-Ost ( Oberbarmen district ) near the border with the Sprockhövel district of Gennebreck . To the east lies the deep cut of the south portal of the Scheetunnel of the disused railway line Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen-Hattingen .

To the north, on the other side of the autobahn, are the localities of Mollenkotten , Berghausstraße and Alteschmiede , to the east, Kattenbreuken and Hasenkamp , to the south, on the same connecting road as Hülsen, the localities of Holtkamp and Falkenrath, and to the west, Nachbarebrecker Busch .

The Wuppertal circular route leads past Hülsen.

History and etymology

The Kotten Hülsen, which on the Prussian first recording of 1840 is called In den Hülsen , is derived from the name Stechhülsen for holly ( Ilex ). The Kotten was in the middle of an area in which holly dominated the vegetation in the lower class .

Hülsen was a leaseholder of the Gennebrecker Hof Frielinghausen .

Sleeves belonged in the early modern period to Gogericht District Schwelm in official weather the Counts of Mark . According to canon law it was in the parish of Schwelm.
