The Trier Süd train station is a place of business on the railway line Trier-Perl border . It is located south of Trier city center. The reception building , opened in 1908, is a listed building .
history
To 1908 in was Holy Cross a small stop on the road Heiligkreuzer present. In the course of extending Hohenzollernstrasse to the railroad tracks, the city administration planned to relocate the station by 150 meters to the north from 1906. The architect of the new reception building is Alwin Wenzel, who worked as a construction clerk in the construction department of the Royal Railway Directorate in Saarbrücken . On March 10, 1908, the city of Trier approved the plans for the new building, and construction work began immediately afterwards. In contrast to the old stop, the tracks of the new station were on a high embankment, while the station building was built at ground level. At the same time as the train station, a street underpass was built under the railway tracks south of the reception building. The station was still in operation in 1908.
description
The entrance building designed by Alwin Wenzel is designed in neo-baroque forms of reform architecture with elements of Art Nouveau . The building had a two-story entrance hall, which was used to access the platform through a tunnel. On the south side, a single-storey extension housed the ticket office, baggage handling and the station's office. In the higher north wing there were two waiting rooms and a restaurant. Two apartments for the station management and innkeeper were located above the waiting rooms, and these were accessed via a stair tower on the north side of the building. The former entrance hall has a high hipped roof , the north wing has a steep mansard roof. Today the building is a listed building and no longer has a railway technical or operational function. A restaurant will be housed in it from autumn 2018.
Operationally, it is now a part of the main train station in Trier . The tracks are in an elevated position, access to the partially covered central platform is from the Hohenzollernstrasse underpass after the reception building is closed. In addition to the two passenger tracks, there is also a track for goods traffic on the single-track line from the Moselle bridge Trier-Pfalzel that ends here .
traffic
Long-distance transport
Since December 10, 2017, the Luxembourg CFL has been operating a daily connection from Luxembourg via Trier and Koblenz to Düsseldorf. The reduced local transport tariff applies from Trier to Koblenz, as the train to Koblenz runs as the regional express line 11. From Koblenz, the train continues as an Intercity to Düsseldorf, which is why the more expensive long-distance transport tariff of the DB applies to this section. The "Trier Süd" stop is only served in the morning in the direction of Düsseldorf.
