The Perl station is the station of the Saarland town Perl and next to the station Nennig and the breakpoint Besch one of three stations of the municipality of Perl. The station is located on route kilometers  159.0 of the Upper Moselle line Thionville  - Perl - Trier and in the network area of the Saarland Transport Association (saarVV). He has a platform track and a platform-free through track. Perl is the border station to France to the network of the French state railway SNCF , the French counterpart is the neighboring station of Apach .

Name and location

The Perl station is officially called Perl . Nevertheless, the name Perl (Moselle) , as the city has it, is also common. Since the train station is in the border triangle between Germany , France and Luxembourg and the Luxembourg municipality of Schengen is on the opposite side of the Moselle , the name Perl-Schengen is also used (particularly in Schengen).

history

The Upper Moselle route leading past Perl was opened to traffic on May 15, 1878 from the direction of Metz . In Trier , she met the connection to Luxembourg, completed in 1861, and the Eifel line from Cologne, which went into operation in 1871 .

Perl station, long shot, 2014

After the First World War , the border with France was again drawn directly south of the Perl train station. Perl thus became a border station. The Deutsche Reichsbahn therefore had the station expanded in the mid-1920s in accordance with its new tasks. The existing brick reception building was more than doubled and the rooms were redistributed. Externally, the building was given a yellow plastered facade. On the upper floor, three service apartments were built for the station master, goods manager and the station manager. The goods shed to the north was used for both local freight traffic and customs clearance for travelers. Furthermore, a customs station was built around two kilometers north to handle the freight trains . In addition to the customs hall and the administration building, the customs station also had a small depot . About 20 minutes from the customs station, the Reichsbahn built a housing estate for 36 families. The renovation began on July 1, 1926 and was completed on October 2, 1927.

With the timetable change in summer 2008, cross-border rail passenger transport was resumed on weekends and public holidays after a 14-year break in operation . Previously, the only one kilometer long section between the respective border stations , Perl in Saarland and Apach in Lorraine , was not used by passenger traffic, so that Perl was the terminus for all passenger trains.

The section Wellen (Mosel)  - Perl was completely closed from June 14, 2009 to August 16, 2010 due to track construction work. To ensure the connection, a replacement rail service was set up during the construction work . At the same time, renovation work began at Perl train station.

The Perl train station is in a structurally neglected state. On December 24, 2012, Heiko Maas , the then Saarland Transport Minister, received two grant notices for the renovation of the two train stations in Perl and Nennig. However, no concrete start of construction has yet been announced.

Reception building

The four-story entrance building of Perl station is only accessible to travelers on the ground floor. In the reception building there is a train station restaurant and a waiting room for 1st and 2nd class , which, however, is no longer accessible. In addition, there are hiking maps to take with you on a stand. Tickets , travel information, information and timetables for local and long-distance traffic are now only available from the ticket machine on the platform .

traffic

Local rail transport

Perl is a border station to France and is located in the tariff area of the Saarland Transport Association (saarVV).

Perl is the end point of the regional train line RB 82 coming from Trier . There is an hourly service here. There is also a direct connection to Koblenz on weekdays except Saturdays , while otherwise you have to change trains in Wittlich or Trier. Until December 2019, the RB 82 drove via Trier to Wittlich Hbf on weekdays . This timetable was taken over by the RB 83 Luxembourg - Trier - Wittlich.

Since summer 2008, two pairs of trains have been operating on weekends and public holidays as the “Trier-Lorraine-Express” (RE 16) excursion train between Trier, Thionville and Metz .

line designation Train run Clock frequency
RE 16 Trier-Lorraine-Express Trier Hbf  - Konz Mitte  - Perl  - Thionville  - Metz-Ville 2 pairs of trains on weekends and public holidays
RB 82 Moselle Valley Railway Trier Hbf - Konz Mitte - Karthaus  - Wellen (Mosel)  - Wincheringen  - Perl Hourly

Transportation

Perl train station is relatively poorly connected to local public transport. There is no bus stop at Perl train station. The connection to the bus traffic is ensured via the Perl, Maimühle bus stop located about 300 meters uphill on the federal road 419 . There the bus routes 156, 210 and 315 run between Kirchberg , Perl and Nennig . Individual trips in the early morning hours also connect Perl with the Kannerklinik in Luxembourg , the Sinz district and the train station in Merzig .

Planning

According to the plans of the Rhineland-Palatinate cycle 2015 , all trains on the Moselle Valley Railway (RB 82) should be extended from their previous terminus in Perl via the German-French border to Thionville from the 2014/2015 timetable change in December 2014 . However, due to a lack of acceptance on the French side, these plans have now been pushed into the distance. Instead, the aim is to expand the offer of the excursion train “Trier-Lorraine-Express” (RE 16) from currently two train pairs on the weekend to five to six train pairs. The problem of the system change is to be solved here by diesel multiple units.

This idea is modified as "a daily cross-border train services in from December 2024 SPNV between Trier and Metz via Perl with a regular timetable to be created Future. Regional Express (RE) line Trier - Perl - Thionville - Metz The route over the Upper Moselle route is initially offered every 2 hours with a journey time of less than one and three quarters of an hour. " The problem of the different electricity systems in Germany and France is to be solved with multi-system vehicles of the Alstom Coradia Polyvalent type .
