André Akkari (born December 28, 1974 in São Paulo ) is a professional Brazilian poker player .

Personal

Akkari worked for a software company where he specialized in creating Flash animations. He lives in São Paulo .

Poker career

When Akkari got the job of creating an e-commerce offer for a poker website, he got familiar with the game and started playing for real money. Since then he has been on the online poker room PokerStars under the nickname aakkari with tournament poker more than 3.5 million US dollars won and is a member of Team PokerStars . Since 2006 Akkari has also regularly participated in renowned live tournaments.

Akkari cashed in at the European Poker Tour Main Event in January 2008 and finished 97th in the Bahamas for $ 16,000 in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures (PCA) . In June 2008 Akkari was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and reached the money twice. At the 2011 WSOP he won a tournament in the variant No-Limit Hold'em and received a bracelet and a prize money of over 675,000 US dollars. At the beginning of 2015, Akkari came 16th in the high roller event as part of the PCA for prize money of almost 80,000 US dollars. At the end of August 2017, he finished fifth at the main event of the PokerStars Championship in Barcelona and received prize money of over 300,000 euros.

In total, Akkari has earned more than 2.5 million US dollars in live poker tournaments, making it the third most successful Brazilian poker player behind Alexandre Gomes and João Simão . He also works as an expert on various poker shows on the TV channel ESPN Brazil . From April to November 2016 , Akkari was the manager of the Sao Paulo Mets in the Global Poker League and made it to the playoffs with his team.
