The Alstom Coradia Polyvalent is an articulated multiple unit made by Alstom and part of the Coradia family. The SNCF has on 27 October 2009, Alstom signed a framework agreement over 1000 trains under the name Régiolis for use in regional transport the French regions (TER) closed.
233 trains have already been ordered, those from the regions of Alsace , Aquitaine , Basse-Normandie , Franche-Comté , Haute-Normandie , Lorraine , Midi-Pyrénées , Pays de la Loire , Picardie , Auvergne , Poitou-Charentes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur to be paid. The French state has ordered 34 trains for national traffic.

description

The Régiolis multiple units are built with two different drive variants: as an electric multiple unit and as a dual- power multiple unit (electric and diesel-electric). The trains can be assembled in three, four and six parts. The trains are completely low-floor , with almost all components housed on the vehicle roof. This also applies to the diesel engines of the dual-power units.

The multiple control makes it possible to couple up to three six-car units, which means that up to 1000 seats are available. The multiple units are used in suburban, regional and long-distance traffic. They can reach speeds of 160 km / h in diesel and catenary operation. There is an option for a maximum speed of 200 km / h for catenary operation. The Coradia Polyvalent are designed as two-system units (1500 V = and 25 kV, 50 Hz), but they can also be supplied with three-system capability for an additional 15 kV at 16.7 Hz. Approval for Germany is planned. The approval of the two-force units for Belgium is sought. Due to the lack of equipment for 3 kV DC voltage, use will be limited to diesel operation.

The units for regional transport comply with the European regulations for the transport of people with reduced mobility; for this, among other things, the aisles are wider. The cars have large windows as well as a passenger information system and sockets.

The Coradia Polyvalent are equipped with compact and powerful permanent magnet motors with high efficiency. They should be easy to maintain and operating costs should also be reduced to a minimum. These trains will replace older vehicles, but should also expand the transport offer in the regions.

Production and approval

The multiple units are manufactured in Alstom plants in France. Development and assembly take place in the Reichshoffen plant (formerly De Dietrich Ferroviaire ), the bogies are manufactured in Le Creusot , the traction motors in Ornans , the axle drives in Tarbes and the control technology in Villeurbanne . The diesel engines are supplied by MAN Truck & Bus .

The first train was presented to the public on June 14, 2011. On December 5th, the first train for the Alsace region was presented to the public in Strasbourg . From November 2011 to January 2013 a total of 1,400 test drives were to take place with ten trains. These were carried out on the Vendenheim – Wissembourg railway in the Hoffen – Wissembourg section, in the Center d'essais ferroviaires in Valenciennes and in the Nançois-Tronville – Ernécourt-Loxéville section of the Paris – Strasbourg railway . In addition, test drives have been taking place on RFF routes that will be used in the future since June 2012 . In 2012, the Alsace and Midi-Pyrénées regions ordered two and five additional trains, respectively. At the end of March 2013, the Franche-Comté region ordered seven trains.

The first vehicles completed the dynamic tests in September 2013 after 200,000 km. The first vehicles were delivered to the regions of Alsace, Aquitaine, Basse-Normandie, Lorraine and Picardy. The passenger service began on April 22, 2014 with a trip from Bordeaux to Agen . 100 train units should be in operation by the end of 2014. According to media reports, the wagons, which are wider than their predecessor series, will require adjustment work at 1200 stations.

Export orders

As part of equipping the Sighișoara – Simeria railway line with ETCS, Alstom is supplying CFR with a dual-force Coradia Polyvalent as a test vehicle . The four-part unit was transferred to Romania at the end of July 2016.

In July 2015, the manufacturer announced the order to supply 17 dual-power units to the SNTF . Delivery of the six-part vehicles with 265 seats is scheduled to begin in January 2018.

17 trains ordered by the Rhône-Alpes region for operation on the CEVA network are also scheduled to run to Switzerland from 2018.

The Senegalese Investment Authority (APIX) is purchasing 15 dual-unit trains on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure. The four-part units with a capacity of 400 passengers serve to connect Dakar to Diamniadio and the Dakar-Blaise Diagne airport, which is to be opened, and will be built from 2017.

The Grand Est region ordered a further 39 railcars in October 2019, of which 30 four-part railcars are to operate in cross-border traffic to Germany. Delivery is planned for the end of 2023.

Series

The trains are delivered in three different variants as suburban, regional and intercity units. These differed mainly in the number of cars and doors. The main difference between the regional and suburban trains is that the latter have two doors instead of one per car. This should enable a faster change of passengers. All vehicles have similar technical equipment. The units intended for France are supplied with dual system capability for 25 kV at 50 Hz AC and 1.5 kV DC voltage . The 17 units that are also suitable for Switzerland are three-system trolleys that can also be used under 15 kV AC voltage at 16.7 Hz.

A 200 km / h variant with four powered bogies and up to ten cars is marketed by the manufacturer as the Coradia Liner V200.

There are five different series:

  • Z 51500 electric regional train.
  • Z 54900 electric suburban train; twice the number of doors compared to the regional train version.
  • B 83500 suburban train with two-power drive; twice the number of doors compared to the regional train version.
  • B 84500 regional train with two-power drive.
  • B 85900 Intercity train with two-power drive. First class seating 1 + 2 instead of 2 + 2.
