The Chaugey – Lons-le-Saunier railway is a single-track , non-electrified, approximately 60 km long railway line in France, which is now largely closed. Only goods traffic takes place on the remaining northern part.
history
The concession for this route was granted to the Chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) on July 20, 1891 . A corresponding contract was signed with the Ministry of Public Work and Transport on that day. With the nationalization of the railway companies, the line changed to SNCF in 1938 and was confirmed on February 2, 1893.
In Lons-le-Saunier and in Bletterans there were 50 years from 1898 to 1948 following the 68 km long, steam-powered narrow gauge - local train , by the Chemins de fer Vicinaux was operated (CFV). According to other sources, construction of the line was started but never completed. On May 4, 1926, the General Council decided to finally stop construction and to reverse all contracts.
The line was completely closed to passenger traffic on September 28, 1969. At the same time, goods traffic in the 6.8 km Chaussin - Pleure section was discontinued, one and a half years later on February 1, 1971 the subsequent 20 km to Bletterans and in 1994 the remaining part to Lons-le-Saunier for the construction of the A 39 for no bridge was planned, as a restart of the railway line was ruled out. Even if the state-owned company Réseau ferré de France (RFF) reversed its decision to close it on November 18, 2004, the realignment of the motorway meant that the railway line was cut up. In contrast to other parts of the route, this section has not yet been de-dedicated.
