    history

    Jaworzno Szczakowa railway station

After the first plans and the subsequent construction work for a connection from Warsaw to Austria failed until 1839 due to the lack of financial resources, the Polish government took over the administration of the responsible Warsaw-Vienna railway from 1843 and continued the construction work from 1844. The main line section between Częstochowa and Granica station ( border ) on the Russian-Austrian border was the last to open on April 1, 1848.

The southern section has already been opened by the Krakow-Upper Silesian Railway (KrOs) six months after it was launched on the initiative of the Krakow Senate in 1844. On October 13, 1847, the KrOs opened their main line between Krakow, Szczakowa and the Prussian border town of Myslowitz ( Mysłowice ). With the completion of the line coming from Warsaw, she set up a short branch line from Szczakowa over the White Przemsa ( Biała Przemsza ), which represented the border river, to Granica station . With its completion, the railway represented the first direct rail connection between the two empires of Russia and Austria.

The line between Trzebinia and Kraków has been double-tracked since 1878, and the rest of the line since the 1920s.

After 1918 the operation was carried out by the Polish Ministry of Transport, in 1920 it was transferred to the newly established Polish state railway Polskie Koleje Państwowe (PKP). This currently runs the line under number 133. The section from Jaworzno Szczakowa to Krakow has been electrified since April 29, 1959, and the section from Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice to Jaworzno Szczakowa has been electrified with 3000 volts DC since April 30 of the same year. The northern section between the Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice and Jaworzno Szczakowa stations is primarily used for freight traffic and is currently (as of April 2017) not served by passenger traffic. The southern section to Kraków, on the other hand, is part of the Polish rail corridor E 30, which is to be expanded as an east-west main line of southern Poland. Accordingly, the route is served by long-distance trains in addition to local passenger trains.
