The Athus – Libramont railway is a main line in the Ardennes in Belgium . The approximately 80 km long double-track line connects Athus via Virton and Bertrix with Libramont . Except for the area around Libramont station that is electrified with 3 kV , the line is completely electrified with 25 kV 50 Hz alternating current.

history

The route was opened in four sections between 1877 and 1882 starting from Athus:

  • Athus – Signeulx on January 20, 1877
  • Signeulx – Florenville on March 26, 1879
  • Florenville – Bertrix on December 20, 1880
  • Bertrix – Libramont on August 21, 1882

It was planned to equip the Athus – Bertrix section with ETCS by 2015 .

business

On the entire route from Arlon via Athus, Virton and Betrix to Libramont, an L- train runs every two hours during the week . At the weekend only the section between Virton and Libramont is served, the rest is without passenger traffic. The Libramont – Dinant L train, which also runs every two hours, runs hourly between Libramont and Bertrix. Electric multiple units of the Desiro Mainline type are used on both lines . Class 41 diesel multiple units operated on this line until the timetable change in December 2012 and also served Rodange , Luxembourg, where they turned heads .
