The Kapušany pri Prešove – Bardejov railway is a branch line in Slovakia . It runs from Kapušany pri Prešove through two valleys between the Čergov Mountains and the Ondavská vrchovina Mountains before reaching Bardejov .

history

The concession to build a railway from the Prešov station of the Kaschau-Oderberg Railway (KsOd) to the town of Bardejov was issued in 1892. The railway line was opened on 11 December 1893, the construction cost 2,840,000 K . First, the terminus should be built around four kilometers outside the city of Bardejov, but by extending the line it could be built in the city area. Originally the railway line was supposed to continue across the Carpathian Mountains to the then Galician city of Gorlice , but this section was never built. From 1896 the management was transferred to the Kaschau-Oderberger Bahn.

Operation was ensured by three locomotives from the Budapest MÁVAG factory . They were classified by the KsOd XII in the series and were given the numbers 531, 532 and 533. When the KsOd was nationalized by the Czechoslovak state in 1924 , they were given the numbers 310.511, 310.512 and 310.513 by the ČSD and were used until 1950 retired.

Today there are several local trains, which usually start in Kapušany or Prešov .
