Barban is a chemical compound from the group of carbamates . It was used as a selective herbicide , but has not been approved in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1979. Barban was licensed in the GDR until 1987.

The active ingredient barban is not approved for use in plant protection products in the European Union .

In Switzerland, Austria and Germany no pesticides with the active ingredient Barban are approved.

Extraction and presentation

Barban can be obtained by reacting phosgene with m -chloroaniline and 2-butyne-1,4-diol with thionyl chloride and the two products with one another.
