Barbara Dürk (* 28. February 1949 in Freiburg , † 20th April 2014 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German trade union functionary , journalist and business consultant .

Life

Barbara Dürk was born in Freiburg im Breisgau and spent her childhood in the Black Forest . After graduating from high school , she first studied in Frankfurt am Main to become a teacher. In addition, she completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter and in 1984 applied to a university professor who was looking for a skilled worker for a third-party funded project . Your application was not accepted due to your gender. Barbara Dürk sued against this, but lost at the regional labor court in Frankfurt am Main with the judgment of December 4, 1985 - 2 Sa 625/85. She then lodged a constitutional complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court because she had been discriminated against because of her gender. After eight years, on November 16, 1993, the decision was made in her favor.

After completing her training as a locksmith, Dürk attended the Academy of Labor at the University of Frankfurt am Main (today: European Academy of Labor ). Then she worked in the ÖTV -Hessen as a union secretary for women and environmental protection. In the ÖTV she initiated the promotion campaign for typical female occupations in the public service. According to some fellow campaigners, she did "pioneering work in women's politics" in this context. Additional focal points of her work were the development of alternatives to privatization, especially for women's jobs, as well as women's interests in modernizing public services. She was committed to the implementation of more flexible working time models to enable women in particular to better combine work and family.

From 1993 Dürk worked as a management consultant. Together with Karin Kraus, she founded the “Büro für neue Zeitpraxis” institute in order to further develop working time models, to network practitioners, scientists and institutions and to enable the exchange of experiences. The institute's sponsors included u. a. Margret Mönig-Raane , then Deputy Chairman of the Ver.di , Hans-Günter Henneke and Herbert Mai . Dürk and Kraus advised B. in the context of the project “New Time Practice” administrations and municipal institutions and companies. Working hours and opening times were made more flexible in the course of the project in cooperation with all those involved. The aim was to be able to offer more family-friendly working hours to better combine family and work , but also more customer-friendly opening times.

In cooperation with the trade unionist Renate Sternatz , Barbara Dürk dealt with the practical implementation of performance pay in the public service , which was introduced across the board in 2005. For employees, staff councils and operations management, Dürk and Sternatz describe how performance remuneration - remuneration based on performance and not based on time - can be linked to target agreements and used in a way that can be used by all involved. Between 2010 and 2012, Dürk and Renate Sternatz carried out a model project on the subject of demographic change in Germany . This was implemented in a number of municipalities in the Federal Republic. Together with employees from various work areas, she developed models for age- appropriate work .

Dürk died on April 20, 2014.
