history

At the request of the Fulda Bishop Johann Leonhard Pfaff , the cooperative of the daughters of Christian love of St. Vincent von Paul in Strasbourg several nurses in the hospital in Fulda . The first three sisters arrived in Fulda on July 5, 1834 and started their work in nursing. First some young women from the diocese went to the novitiate in Strasbourg, then a separate novitiate was set up at the hospital and the community developed into an independent province.

The first parent company was built in 1844. After a legal separation from the Strasbourg Congregation in 1851, the community of sisters was given corporate status in 1866 . First Superior General was Sr. Pauline Anth. In the period that followed, numerous branches were established, mainly in the Fulda diocese, but also in Meißen , Trier and Limburg . In 1884 a new parent company was built.

As a result of the division of Germany , the province of Erfurt was established in 1968 , to which the branches in East Germany belonged and which had its own novitiate. Together with the original community in Strasbourg and eight other congregations founded there, the Fulda motherhouse merged in 1970 to form the Federation of Vincentian Communities . Together with the parent companies in Paderborn, Freiburg and Heppenheim, a branch was established in India from 1973 , which became independent in 1994.
