Based on a TRU Story is the debut album by US rapper 2 Chainz . It was released on August 14, 2012 on the Def Jam Recordings label . The rappers Lil Wayne , Drake , Kanye West , Nicki Minaj and Dolla Boy, his rap colleague from Playaz Circle , worked as guest musicians on the album . Other musicians involved are The-Dream , Mike Posner , The Weeknd and Chris Brown . Production worried Brick Squad Monopoly's Southside , Mike WiLL Made It , Sonny Digital , Kanye West, Hit-Boy , Drumma Boy , DJ Mustard , Mr. Bangladesh and DJ Spinz .
The album reached number 1 on the US Billboard 200 and was awarded a gold record in the US for more than 500,000 copies sold. At the Grammy Awards in 2013 was based on a TRU Story in the category Best Rap Album nominated, but lost Take Care of Drake .

2 Chainz began releasing solo material in 2007 under the name Tity Boi. At that time he was still a member of Playaz Circle . This year his mixtape Me Against the World was released! . After changing his stage name to 2 Chainz, he published the mixtape TRU REALigon in 2011 , with which he first hit the R&B / Hip-Hop album charts of the American magazine Billboard . This was followed by numerous guest appearances on recordings by other musicians, including the commercially successful singles Mercy by Kanye West and Beez in the Trap by Nicki Minaj .
On March 24, 2012, 2 Chainz announced the release of his debut album for August 14, 2012 via his Twitter account . On the sidelines of his sold-out concert at the SOB in New York on January 30, 2012, he announced the album title TRU 2 My REALigion to the AllHipHop web portal . Six weeks later, on March 15, 2012, in an interview with Fuse TV , 2 Chainz announced the change of the album title to Based on a TRU Story .
Outcouplings
The title No Lie was introduced as the lead single of the album on May 1, 2012 and released on iTunes on May 8, 2012. The Canadian rapper Drake was the guest vocalist and Mike WiLL Made It was the producer. The music video, directed by Director X, was released on June 21, 2012.
The second single was released on July 24, 2012 Birthday Song featuring Kanye West.
The third single from the album, I'm Different , was released on November 8, 2012. The accompanying music video was first shown on December 23, 2012 on MTV Jams .
