Basta is a German a cappella - group from Cologne . It consists of five singers who mostly write and arrange their pieces themselves.

history

Basta developed from the a cappella steps taken by school friends René Overmann and William Wahl. The two of them had already made music together as teenagers and supplemented their pocket money with a cappella music during school and university. The two sang in different formations (mostly in groups of four), until they decided, together with Werner Adelmann, to put together a stage program with their own songs. After newspaper advertisements and casting, the decision was made to use Andreas Hardegen as bass. With this line-up, basta gave its first concerts in 2000, so 2000 is considered the year it was founded.

With the engagement of Klaus Tröscher as manager (who also managed BAP , Rüdiger Hoffmann and Ingo Appelt ) the real career of the band began. Basta signed a record deal with BMG, followed by the CDs basta (2002) and b (2004). Concerts no longer took place only regionally, but throughout Germany. The TV appearances were also important for the success of the band, especially basta's guest appearance as Barbara Schöneberger's house band in the ZDF Comedy Champ competition and their appearance in front of eight million viewers on the PISA show hosted by Jörg Pilawa .

In 2004 the biggest concert to date took place in front of 2,000 spectators in the Cologne Philharmonic , which was broadcast several times by WDR. In 2005 they made a guest appearance in front of 120,000 spectators at the Cologne World Youth Day in the sold-out Cologne Opera . This was followed by the third CD We come in peace and their own TV show "... and that's it!" in the WDR. In 2006 the WDR broadcast the first season with six episodes. The second season followed in 2007 and the third season in 2009 with seven episodes.

In 2007 basta recorded the fourth CD We are as we are and made it into the German album charts for the first time. At the European Championships in 2008 the song player women reached place 93. In the following year Basta performed in China at the invitation of the Goethe Institute . In 2009 Basta sang the songs of the television musical written by Walter Moers and Thomas Pigor , Käpt'n Blaubär und der stupde Wolf, and took on other speaking roles in it.

The fifth CD, five , was released in 2010 and reached number 43 in the German charts. The song Gimme Hope Joachim , a cover version of Eddy Grant's Gimme Hope Jo'anna , was released for the 2010 World Cup and reached number 18 in the German charts.

In 2011 the sixth studio album Basta macht blau was released , which reached number 33 in the German album charts. A year later, Basta won the Prix Médial, awarded every five years by the television magazine Prisma . In September 2013 there was a reshuffle in the group: Arndt Schmöle replaced Andreas Hardegen as bass. Arndt Schmöle and Thomas Aydintan had already sung “Modell Andante” together in the Hanoverian a cappella ensemble. In 2014 “Domino” was released, the first album in the new line-up.

Hannes Herrmann joined the band in 2016. The baritone had previously sung “High Five” with the a cappella ensemble. Basta recorded the album Freizeichen with him . The band's ninth studio album, In Color, followed in 2018 . In April 2019 it was announced that Herrmann would leave the band in summer 2019.

In August 2019, the baritone Mirko Schelske joined the band for him. He previously sang for four years with the a cappella band Five Before Marriage .
