In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 winters, Midol only sporadically made it into the top ten in the World Cup. Due to insufficient results, he was unable to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics. In contrast, he achieved a marked increase in performance in the 2018/19 season . In the World Cup he was on the podium seven times, including twice as a winner; he was never ranked worse than seventh.
