The Electronic Warfare Battalion 931 ( EloKaBtl 931 ) is an association of the Cyber and Information Space division of the Bundeswehr and subordinate to the Strategic Reconnaissance Command. It is one of four battalions for electronic warfare (EloKa) of the Bundeswehr.

assignment

Antenna field ANTERRA

The task of the association stationed in the Heinrich Hertz barracks in Daun ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) is telecommunications intelligence . It clarifies electromagnetic emissions both for early crisis detection and to support and protect one's own soldiers and partners in the Bundeswehr's missions abroad . In addition to the search, acquisition, recording and location of telecommunications broadcasts, the process also includes the first steps in the evaluation. The reconnaissance is carried out both from stationary systems and from mobile units.

The results of the reconnaissance on crisis regions and areas that are in the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany are reported as contributions to the assessment of the situation to superior departments . The aim is to develop meaningful contributions in order to gain a comprehensive picture of the situation.

history

Set up in Bergisch Gladbach on July 1, 1957 as Telecommunications Reconnaissance Battalion 225 ( Fm AufklBtl 225 ) , the battalion, which was renamed Fernmeldebataillon 51 ( FmBtl 51 ) on March 15, 1959 , was relocated to its new location in Daun with effect from September 10, 1965 . The Heinrich Hertz barracks, which were still under construction at the time, made the town of Daun in the Vulkaneifel a garrison town in 1965 . After a name change to Fernmeldebataillon 940 ( FmBtl 940 ) in 1974 and Telecommunications Reconnaissance Regiment 940 ( Fm AufklRgt 940 ) in 1992, the association became part of the newly created military organization area Armed Forces Base ( SKB ) in 2003 , subordinated to the Strategic Reconnaissance Command and carried out until March 31 2013 the name Telecommunications Reconnaissance Section 931 ( Fm AufklAbschn 931 ). The Bundeswehr Intelligence Agency (ANBw) founded in 1978 operated the Black FmRadar station here .

As part of the realignment and restructuring of the Bundeswehr, the association was reorganized on April 1, 2013 as the Electronic Warfare Battalion 931 .

The outer landmark of the Daun barracks is the ANTERRA antenna system, which was put into operation in 1996. It replaced the antenna system that had been in use since 1970.

Association badge

The association badge symbolizes the affiliation to the Daun location and the subordination of the association. The braided bar in the colors yellow and red comes from the family coat of arms of the lords and later counts of Daun. The golden lightning is the traditional symbol in the telecommunications service for telecommunications intelligence. The torch as a symbol of vigilance goes back to the association's first coat of arms.

In 1987, the general of the command troop granted the then Telecommunications Battalion 940 permission to wear this coat of arms as an internal association badge.

Calls

The Electronic Warfare Battalion 931 supports the Bundeswehr missions as part of its mission, including the Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan . Soldiers from the association are regularly deployed abroad. In an attack on Bundeswehr soldiers in Kabul on June 7, 2003 , two soldiers of the association fell and one was seriously wounded .
