Battlefield 1943 , or Battlefield 1943: Pacific , BF1943 or BF43 for short , is a first-person shooter that was released in July 2009 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 . The development of the Windows version has officially stopped. Was developed Battlefield 1943 by DICE and will to succeed Battlefield 1942 traded. In 2018 a version of the game was released for the Xbox One .

The action takes place during the Pacific War . In Battlefield 1943 , the US Marines fight as factions against the Imperial Japanese Army .

General

Battlefield 1943 was officially announced by EA / DICE for PC and consoles ( PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 ) on February 5, 2009 . The shooter is not sold through the usual sales channels, but is available as a download from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live for the respective platform.

With only four maps, three classes and approx. 550 MB in size, Battlefield 1943 is rather untypical, as it can be seen as a "smaller" DICE project, in contrast to the otherwise rather extensive Battlefield series.

technology

Like Battlefield: Bad Company and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 , Battlefield 1943 is powered by the Frostbite engine and Havok - physics engine . The Frostbite Engine enables a largely destructible environment.

In addition, multi-core processors supported.

Functions

vehicles

As usual in Battlefield 1942 , the player has different vehicles to choose from: tanks, planes, jeeps and boats. As in Battlefield 2 , large ships are not controllable. A player can move a small squadron of bombers from a radar tower.

Up to four players can form a squad .

Game modes

In Battlefield 1943 only the game mode "Multiplayer" is included, there is no single player mode and LAN battles. Cross-platform battles are also absent due to unequal starting conditions. The slots, i.e. the number of players, is 24. Therefore, max. three squads of four players compete against each other on two sides. Battlefield 1943 can only be played in Conquest mode. The form of the Conquest mode is "Head-on-Head Assault". This means that not all flags can be taken and that you have to fight until you lose your last ticket.

For the fourth map, Coral Sea , the conquest mode was changed a bit and renamed to air superiority . The aim here is to capture and hold the flag in the middle of the map by being present in the surrounding airspace, and then by shooting down enemy planes to reduce the “tickets” of the opposing side until victory. Both sides take off from two aircraft carriers.

cards

The three most popular maps from Battlefield 1942 were integrated into Battlefield 1943. The fourth card Coral Sea after reaching 43 million kills by the Community released on both consoles.

Others

It is possible to transfer your own account to Bad Company 2 .
