Bauke Roolvink (* 31 January 1912 in Wijtgaart , Leeuwarderadeel , Friesland , † 25. November 1979 in Baarn , Utrecht Province ) was a Dutch trade union functionary and politician of the Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP), among others Secretary of State , a member of the Second Chamber of States General and Minister was.

Life

After attending the Protestant primary school in Werdenum , Roolvink completed vocational training as a blacksmith at the vocational school in Leeuwarden . He then worked at the Leeuwarden shipyard from 1928 to 1929 and then for half a year in the design workshop there, before becoming a machinist at the Royal Fireplace Factory EM Jaarsma N.V. between 1929 and 1946. was in Hilversum .

After the end of World War II , Roolvink, who had joined the ARP in 1935, became a full-time board member of the Christian Metalworkers' Association ( Christelijke Metaalbewerkers Bond , CMB) in the Amsterdam district. A few years later he began his political career in local politics when he was elected for the ARP in September 1949 as a member of the Hilversum municipal council and was a member of it until June 1959.

In May 1950 he became second chairman of the CMB and as such was a member of the executive board from May 1950 to December 1952. He was then secretary of the Christian National Trade Union Confederation ( Christelijk Nationaal Vakverbond , CNV) between December 1952 and June 1959 and during this time also attended courses at the CNV management school.

State Secretary, Member of Parliament and Minister

In June 1959, Roolvink was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Public Health in his cabinet by Prime Minister Jan de Quay and supported the ministers at the time, Charles van Rooy , Victor Marijnen and Gerard Veldkamp , during his term of office, which lasted until July 1963 .

In July 1963, as the top candidate of the ARP, he became a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and was a member of it until April 1967. On July 27, 1963 he was made a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion .

During his membership in parliament he was first deputy chairman between July 1964 and April 1965, then until February 1967 chairman of the parliamentary group of the ARP in the Second Chamber and then again between February and April 1967 deputy parliamentary group chairman. He was also an advisory member of the ARP Central Committee between 1965 and 1966 .

Roolvink was appointed by Prime Minister Piet de Jong as Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health in his cabinet on April 5, 1967 and was a member of this until the end of de Jong's term on July 6, 1971.

In the parliamentary elections of May 1971 he was re-elected as a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and was a member of it until June 1977.

For his longstanding political services, he was also appointed Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau on July 17, 1971 .
