The class C , later C III , was a locomotive of the Bavarian Eastern Railway and the Reichsbahn .

A total of 55 copies of this locomotive were built for the Eastern Railway in Bavaria from 1867 . However, three were sold in new condition to the Reichseisenbahnen in Alsace-Lorraine in 1872 and replaced by new buildings with the same number, so that the operating stock was 52 pieces. The dimensions of the five series differed from one another. They had larger grate and heating surfaces than the predecessor machines of the C II series . In addition, the drive was relocated to the central axis so that shorter drive rods were sufficient. The vehicles also had an Allan control system and steam jet pumps.
Retirement began after 1905. In 1920 there were 49 machines left. The Reichsbahn redrawn 35 of the 38 copies still in existence in 1923 and gave them the numbers 53 7835-7864. However, they were no longer taken into active service in 1925. Three vehicles were sent to the NMBS in Belgium as reparations . The vehicles were equipped with type 3 T 9 and 3 T 9.5 tenders .
