Cypella ( Cypella ) is a plant genus in the family of the Iridaceae (Iridaceae).

description

Beaker sword species are perennial herbaceous plants that reach a stature height of about 50 centimeters. As persistence organs, they form onion-like tubers. Their basal sheets are linear to lanceolate-linear and folded. The simple or branched stems are cylindrical in cross-section, with a few small leaves on them .

The flowers are either as umbels or as terminal individual flowers. The bracts are not overgrown and of different shapes and sizes: the three leaves of the outer circle of petals are obovate and spread out, those of the inner are upright, are considerably smaller and narrower and are curled up from the tips. The pen may be irregularly lobed, winged or branched and rise above the dust bag .

The fruit is an elongated to almost round capsule with several flat, brown seeds.

distribution

The cup swords are common in tropical to subtropical South America from Bolivia and Peru to Argentina.
