Becker + Flöge (proper spelling becker + flöge ) is a family-run of the Lower Saxony eye optics company with 31 specialty shops (status 2019) in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia . The main focus of the company is the sale of glasses, contact lenses, magnifying visual aids, hearing aids and astronomical instruments. WL Becker

After the young W. Ludwig Becker (born August 18, 1807 in Hameln ; † August 9, 1882 in Hanover) began his professional career as an optician on April 8, 1823 in the first quarter of the 19th century , he founded the company at the beginning of industrialization in the Kingdom of Hanover on November 11, 1836 in Hanover an own "optical institute" in the house Dammstrasse 9. About a decade later, his business building was in the royal seat in the later Bohlendamm at the Leineschloss , in 1846 by King Ernst August I. von Hanover awarded the title of court mechanic and optician.

The later owner Hans Ahrens founded branches in Hameln at Bäckerstraße 7 and in Springe , Lange Straße 23. A. Flies

Towards the end of the 19th century, the optician August Flöge (born July 14, 1864 in Hanover; † May 19, 1905 there) founded his “A. Flöge, Optical Eye Institute ”at Alte Celler Heerstraße 56 in Hanover, the later Lister Meile .

About 15 years later, his successor Richard Giesecke, who was appointed on August 1, 1908, added a special department for cameras and accessories to the business, as well as taking over photographic work as a service. During the First World War , the company became a supplier of glasses and binoculars for the German Army .

At the time of the Weimar Republic , a first branch was opened on July 1, 1924 at Georgstrasse 4 am Steintor . In 1933 the branch was relocated to the building of the Hotel Rheinischer Hof on Bahnhofstrasse .

Becker + Flöge

In 1958 Dieter Flöge († in March 2008) joined the family company and from 1962 it merged with the family company W. Ludwig Becker, whereby both companies brought four locations each into the new company Becker + Flöge. This was led by Dieter Flöge until his retirement in 1998. When he left on January 1, 1998, Becker + Flöge was considered one of the largest family-run optical chain stores. As a result, Katja Flöge, the great-granddaughter of the company founder, and her husband Michael Thöne-Flöge took over the management of the family business.

After the takeover of the long -established Hanoverian company Optiker Postleb in 1968, Becker + Flöge moved up into the ranks of the "Top Ten German opticians" and continued to develop as follows:

  • 1974: Merger with Optiker Klemkow (Neustadt am Rübenberge), takeover of Grohmann (Wunstorf) and Optiker Jordan (Hanover). Change of name to Becker + Flöge GmbH

  • 2018: Takeover of Optik Schmerschneider (Wolfsburg-Fallersleben) - For the first time in many years, Becker and Flöge are no longer in the top 15 in terms of sales.

Opticland

Opticland is a purchasing association for ophthalmic optics and hearing acoustics . As a founding member and long-standing chairman of the board of directors of the optician purchasing association, Dieter Flöge was not only committed to Becker + Flöge, but also to various foundations and charitable events. Today Michael Thöne-Flöge acts as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Opticland purchasing group.

Employees, training and further education

The company employs around 280 people in around 31 specialist shops. 20 opticians work in the manual area of ​​the central workshop. 50 trainees are currently completing their apprenticeships at Becker + Flöge. In addition to ophthalmic optics, the company also regularly trains clerks for office management and, since 2018, the profession of clerk for e-commerce. In Lower Saxony, Becker + Flöge is one of the major trainers in the optical industry. In addition to apprenticeship training and support for the master school, Becker + Flöge also offers internal seminars for specialists and managers as well as training for the trainees.
