The Beeke is a left tributary of the Hunte . It flows into the Hunte just north of the urban area of Diepholz .

description

The Beeke is a second order body of water . It arises in the Südlohner Moor in the Vechta district , where it is fed by drainage ditches . After initially running eastwards, it runs mainly in a southerly direction and forms the border to the Diepholz district for a while . At the confluence with the Laufgraben coming from the west and the Mittlerer Hochmoorkanal coming from the south, it flows further east and after about four kilometers flows into the Hunte in the district of Diepholz north of Diepholz. The course of the Beeke is straightened along its entire length. Below the confluence with the Laufgraben, which runs on the western edge of the Südlohner Moor, and the Mittlerer Hochmoorkanal, which drains parts of the Steinfelder and Diepholzer Moor , further ditches flow into the Beeke, which drain the agricultural areas in the lowlands . In addition, the Neuer and Alter Moorkanal, which drain parts of the Diepholzer Moor and adjacent areas, flow into the Beeke from the right and the high moor ditch, which drains the Heeder Moor and adjacent areas, from the left.

The Beeke initially flows through pitted and partially rewetted areas of the Südlohner Moor. After leaving the Südlohner Moor, it is largely surrounded by agricultural land. In this area it is initially partially accompanied by trees. In the further course of the river, trees and shrubs accompanying the stream are almost completely missing. The strip of water between the top of the embankment and the adjacent agricultural areas is only very narrow in places.

Northwest of Diepholz is a bone meal factory, the wastewater after the treatment in the factory waste water treatment plant to be pumped into the Beeke. The water quality of the Beeke is polluted by inputs from agriculture and the wastewater from the meat and bone meal factory. In particular, aquatic plants such as water star, small duckweed , ivy water buttercup , knotweed , floating pondweed and simple hedgehog's cob, which occur frequently before the opening of the meat-and-bone meal factory, are only found sporadically, sometimes not at all.

The Hunte entertainment association is responsible for maintaining the water. The Beeke was used in the 17th century to drive a grain mill , the dust mill.
