The Steinfelder Moor nature reserve connects to the south of the federal highway 214 and merges into the Diepholzer Moor east of the district boundary . The area has been a nature reserve since August 2, 1986. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Vechta.

description

The nature reserve is between Lohne and Diepholz in the Diepholzer Moorniederung . It provides a high moor area as part of the Great Moores under protection. The nature reserve is bounded in the west by the Vorderen Hochmoorkanal or the Laufgraben, in the east by the border with the Diepholz district. The Südlohner Moor is drained by the Dadau and the Beeke in the direction of the Hunte , into which both bodies of water flow.

The nature reserve is divided into two zones. The peripheral zone lies in the west of the area and is mainly used for agriculture. The core zone contains most of the nature reserve. Only a few areas used for agriculture can be found here. In the core zone, when the area was placed under protection, mechanical peat extraction was in operation. After the peat extraction has ended, the core area should be completely rewetted so that it can regenerate. As a result, the upper reaches of the Dadau and the Beeke, which were created for drainage, would change their shape permanently, if not disappear. Parts of the moorland are overgrown with birch trees.
