description

The 1,023 hectare nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 220 extends in the area of the city of Diepholz along the border with the district of Vechta .

In the former nature reserve Aschener Moor are abgetorfte , partly in bog - Regeneration contain contained areas, but also bog birch forests and grasslands . The area of the former nature reserve Am Heeder Moor mainly consists of moist grassland, a few cultivated arable land on the edge and guarding areas . In the center of this area there is an unused raised bog. The areas between the old nature reserves and included in the new area have been peated industrially and some of them still are. In the future, the district of Diepholz wants to wet this area again so that the natural raised bog can return.

The nature reserve was designated in particular because of the species and communities of wild plants growing in the raised bog and bird species that live here. So you can find endangered plant species such as B. Round-leaved and medium sundew , rosemary heather and cranberry . Waders and meadow birds such as curlew , common snipe , lapwing and redshank breed in the nature reserve . In addition, one can find stonechat , gray shrike , red-backed killer , goat milker and teal . The smooth snake is particularly worthy of mention among vertebrate species . Moor frogs have multiplied strongly in the newly formed shallow waters of the Aschen Moor.

Because of the prehistoric moor path in the Aschen Moor , the nature reserve is important for science and local history. The way out of the pre-Roman Iron Age around the years 65 and 35 BC Was originally about 4.2 km long.
