description
The bog area in Wietingsmoor is located directly north of the sanctuary and still used by freight railway line between Diepholz and Sulingen that the former railway line Nienburg-Diepholz belongs. In 1994, what was then the nature reserve east of Freistatt was expanded to include a grassland area between the railway embankment and the municipal border and another area north of the railway embankment. Also in 1994, a strip in the municipality of Freistatt on the western edge of the area, directly on the connecting road between Freistatt and Heimstatt , was added to the neighboring nature reserve "Freistätter Moor". This reduced the size of the area by about 92 hectares.
The moor is largely industrial abgetorft Service. The peeled off areas are renatured by rewetting . In the eastern edge areas of the former nature reserve, grassland predominates, which also serves as a buffer zone for the moorland. There are also some arable land.
The area is drained via ditches mainly to the flute with moor canal and further to the Great Aue , which flows into the Weser a little above Nienburg .
