The northern Wietingsmoor is a former nature reserve in the Lower Saxony cities of Twistringen and Sulingen and the communities of Ehrenburg in the combined community of Schwaförden , Eydelstedt in the combined community of Barnstorf and the communities of Freistatt and Wehrbleck in the combined community of Kirchdorf in the district of Diepholz .

General

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 200 was 1599  hectares in size. It was completely part of the FFH area “Wietingsmoor” and the EU bird sanctuary “Diepholzer Moorniederung”. In the southwest it bordered on the nature reserve " Freistätter Moor " and in the south part of the conservation area "Weddigeloh". The area has been under nature protection since February 20, 1969. As of November 2, 2018, the newly designated nature reserve " Northern and Middle Wietingsmoor, Freistätter Moor and Sprekelsmeer " opened up. The responsible lower nature conservation authority was the district of Diepholz.

The bog area in Wietingsmoor between Twistringen, Sulingen and Barnstorf in Diepholzer Moorniederung . The raised bog areas in the former nature reserve have been peated over a large area or have been peated further after being placed under protection. The pitted areas were partially cultivated and are mainly used extensively as grassland . In addition, there are arable land and heather areas, but raised bogs have also been preserved in the central areas of the moorland. The bog areas affected by peat cutting after the end of its useful rewetted and then rehabilitated.

The area is drained via trenches and the Bargeriege and the Tüske and Wagenfelder Aue to the Hunte , the Schweringhäuser Bach, Kuhbach and Kleine Aue and the Flöte with Moorkanal and the Wietinghäuser Graben to the Große Aue and on to the Weser .
