General
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 147 was 878 hectares in size. It was part of the FFH area "Wietingsmoor" and for the most part also of the EU bird sanctuary " Diepholzer Moorniederung ". In the east it bordered on the former nature reserve " Mittleres Wietingsmoor ", in the north on the former nature reserve " Sprekelsmeer ". The former nature reserve " Nördliches Wietingsmoor " is directly connected to the north. The area has been under nature protection since April 5, 1990. As of November 2, 2018, the newly designated nature reserve " Northern and Middle Wietingsmoor, Freistätter Moor and Sprekelsmeer " opened up. The responsible lower nature conservation authority was the district of Diepholz.
description
The bog area in Wietingsmoor located north of the sanctuary. It is largely pitted and is used extensively as grassland . There are also heathland and forest. In the south of the former nature reserve there are a total of four clarification ponds.
In 1994, a largely unused strip directly east of the connecting road between Freistatt and Heimstatt , which was previously part of the former "Mittleres Wietingsmoor" nature reserve, which was designated in 1988, was added to the "Freistätter Moor" nature reserve.
The area is drained via ditches and the Moorkanal or the Tüske to Wagenfelder Aue , which flows into the Hunte just above Barnstorf , and via the Flute with Moorkanal to the Great Aue , which flows into the Weser a little above Nienburg .
Freistätter Feldbahn
The tracks of the Freistatter Feldbahn run along the connecting road between Freistatt and Heimstatt, a field railway that originally connected the facilities of the moor colony founded in 1899 on a widely branched rail network. Of this, the approximately 6.5 km long route with several stops has been preserved. It is used for tourism.
