Geestmoor-Klosterbachtal and Schlattbeeke is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Bassum and the municipality of Neuenkirchen in the joint municipality of Schwaförden in the Diepholz district .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 209 is around 450  hectares in size. A large part of it overlaps with the almost 380 hectare FFH area "Geestmoor and Klosterbachtal". Between Bassum and Neuenkirchen it borders often to the conservation area "Mühlebach - Wedehorner wood", southwest of New Churches in places to the conservation area "dead break Moor" and south of it in part to the conservation area "Kleine Aue". The area was designated on January 3, 2018. The previous nature reserves " Geestmoor-Klosterbachtal " and " Schlattbeeke " were merged with it. Furthermore, parts of the landscape protection areas surrounding the previous nature reserves were integrated into the nature reserve.

The nature reserve is located south of Bassum on the edge of the Wildeshauser Geest nature park . It extends along the valley of the Klosterbach until shortly before the river is crossed by the federal road 51 near Bassum and the upper reaches of the Kleine Aue and includes the lowlands and valleys of some of the streams flowing into the Klosterbach. The Klosterbach runs relatively close to nature in the nature reserve. Sections are straightened. As a flowing body of water with flooding water vegetation, the Klosterbach has a predominantly sandy creek bed. Typical floodplain structures border the brook with alder, ash, alluvial forests and alder swamp forests . Black alder and common ash dominate here . In the herb layer settle u. a. Dragon root , marsh marigold , tongue buttercup , small valerian , creeping günsel , swamp fern , roller sedge and floor moss . Furthermore, moist are Hochstaudenfluren with wild angelica , Wasserdost and meadowsweet , Sedge and reedbeds to find. Partial areas are occupied by wet grassland . In places near-natural still waters with spawn and frog bite communities can be found. On drier locations at the transitions to the Geest , oak and beech forests are thick with common oak , red beech and sand birch , some with a pronounced herbaceous layer. Thorn fern , wood sorrel , blueberry and beautiful Widertonmoos, for example , settle here .

Water draft from the great heather

The side valley of the Schlattbeeke is predominantly characterized by wooded areas. Alder-ash forests, beech forests and oak-beech forests grow here. The periodic watercourse from the large heather runs through the valley. Other areas with streams flowing into the Klosterbach are primarily located in Wedehorner Holz, which connects to the north of the side valley of the Schlattbeeke.

In the southern area of the nature reserve there is the Geestmoor, the remainder of a partially drained and pitted raised bog . The area is largely occupied by quarry and bog forests with downy birch and Scots pine as the dominant tree species. In waterlogged Torfstichen there are quaking moore. In Geestmoor settle u. a. Bell heather , round-leaved sundew , narrow-leaved cotton grass , dragon root, moor lily , cranberry and beak sedge . The area is the habitat of various dragonflies , including the moss maiden , and amphibians such as the moor frog .

There is a watershed in the Geestmoor . The Geestmoor is the source area of the cloister brook, which flows in northerly directions and becomes the Varreler Bäke , a tributary of the Ochtum , at Stuhr , as well as the Kleine Aue, which flows in southerly directions and flows into the Große Aue at Barenburg .

The forests in the nature reserve have a high proportion of old and dead wood . The nature reserve mainly borders on agricultural land and wooded areas. Partial areas are used for agriculture.
