The Burgwald Dinklage is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony towns of Dinklage and Lohne (Oldenburg) in the Vechta district .

Data

The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 291 is around 126  hectares in size. The 118.31 hectare FFH area "Forest near Dinklage Castle" is completely part of the nature reserve. The nature reserve is bordered to the west, south and east to the conservation area "Dinklage Castle", which has risen in the scope of the Nature Protection Ordinance in this. The area has been under nature protection since November 30, 2017. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Vechta.

flora

The nature reserve is located directly east of Dinklage. It places a natural and historical forest site under protection. The forests are characterized by hornbeam -beech forests with common beech , English oak and sessile oak , sand birch and mountain ash , oak-hornbeam forests with English oak and hornbeam as the dominant tree species and old, acidic oak forests on sandy soils with steep and sessile oak. In the herb layer settle u. a. Shadow flowers , seven-star , wood anemones , golden nettles , willows , forest and pill sedge and thorn fern . Old hat oaks are scattered in the woods . The forests have well-developed old and dead wood stocks and should be able to continue to develop naturally. To the southwest of the Burg Dinklage monastery , grassland areas are included in the nature reserve.

fauna

The nature reserve is also the habitat of a species-rich fauna. So here are u. a. Stock dove , great spotted , medium and small woodpecker , wood warbler and treecreeper are native. The nature reserve is home to many species of ground horns , scarabs and weevils . A special feature is the presence of the hermit . Still waters and other wetland habitats are the habitat of the crested newt and other amphibians .

Surroundings

The nature reserve borders on the Dinklages motorway slip road in the north and the A1 in the east . To the west it borders on the Burg Dinklage monastery , the main and ancillary buildings of which are not included in the NSG, and partially on the residential development of the city of Dinklage. Agricultural land borders the nature reserve to the south . The approximately 27 hectare park of a hotel with an animal enclosure, which protrudes into the nature reserve, is excluded from the scope of the nature conservation ordinance. The area also serves as a recreational area and can be experienced in several ways.

Opinions

The NABU Lohne welcomes the fact that the Burgwald Lohne is a nature reserve since 2017th In particular, it is to be assessed positively that the rare Russian beetle is protected more effectively than before and that the horse paddock at Dinklage Castle has been included in the new NSG.

However, the "precarious water balance " of the NSG is still unresolved ; the regulation on the NSG does not regulate the "still desolate water balance of the entire Burgwald complex". The Burgwald will be surrounded and isolated by advancing development, and the aim of the biotope network will be ignored when business parks are planned in Dinklage and Lohne .

For the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation , experts regret that, due to its small size, they did not include the Dinklage Castle Forest in the list of landscapes “of great importance for the natural and cultural heritage” or “of great importance for the experience of the landscape / landscape-related recreation” even though the castle forest is one of the "historically significant cultural landscapes nationwide".
