Bekecs is a municipality in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county .
Geographical location
Bekecs is located in northern Hungary , 32 kilometers from Miskolc county seat . Neighboring municipalities are Legyesbénye 2 km and Taktaszada 8 km. The nearest town is Szerencs .
history
The village probably got its name from the Bekecs family in the 12th century. During the Turkish period, the village was deserted and was settled again afterwards. In 1625 the psalm translator Albert Szenczi Molnár worked here. Since the 19th century, Bekecs was no longer an independent municipality. The place became part of the Legyesbénye municipality and belonged to Szerencs after the Second World War . The place has been independent again since 1956 .
