Monok is a municipality in the Hungarian county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén . The Hungarian national hero Lajos Kossuth and the former Hungarian Prime Minister Miklós Németh were born in Monok.

Geographical location

Monok is located in northern Hungary , 40 kilometers from the Miskolc county seat . Neighboring communities are Golop 5 km, Legyesbénye 7 km and Tállya 7 km. The nearest town, Szerencs, is 8 km from Monok.
