Benjamin Robert Alnwick (born January 1, 1987 in Prudhoe , England ) is an English football goalkeeper.

Career

society

Alnwick began his career at Sunderland AFC . There he played as a professional from 2004 to 2007. He made his debut when he had to replace the established number 1 Thomas Myhre at the end of the 2004/05 season , as he was injured. Eventually, the team secured first place in the Football League Championship and advanced to the Premier League . For the new season Myhre left Sunderland and Alnwick competed with new buyer Kelvin Davis for the place between the posts, where he did not manage to prevail. The young player made his debut in the top English division on November 5, 2005 in a 3-1 away defeat against city rivals Arsenal London . Davis left the club after only a year and Alnwick became the new number 1 of the "Black Cats" . After poor performance at the beginning of the 2006/07 season, coach Roy Keane replaced him with Darren Ward . During the winter break 2006/07 Alnwick left Sunderland and transferred to Tottenham Hotspur . In Tottenham he has not since made it to the goalkeeper. Often he was only the third choice. In order to maintain match practice, the Hotspur officials regularly loaned him to lower-class clubs. In September 2007 he was supposed to guard the gate of Luton Town for three months , but was recalled to White Hart Lane after four weeks because of an injury to Paul Robinson . The second loan period followed in January 2008 and the goalkeeper joined Leicester City until the end of the season . Alnwick's position did not improve for the new season and so the club loaned him to Carlisle United for a month in October 2008 . He made his debut in the Spurs dress in the second leg of the semi-finals of the League Cup against Burnley FC . The match was lost 2: 3 afterwards, but Tottenham still reached the final against Chelsea . This won the Spurs kickers without Alnwick being in the squad. Between July and September 2009, the goalkeeper wore the Norwich City kit . After his return, Alnwick made his league debut after the real number 2 Carlo Cudicini was injured for Tottenham in the game against Burnley FC on May 9, 2010. During the game he conceded four goals and the game ended 2-4 from the point of view of North London . For the 2010/11 season, Alnwick's position deteriorated significantly. Cudicini had since recovered and in Stipe Pletikosa an experienced foreign goalkeeper was signed. On October 14, 2010, Alnwick's fifth loan team followed. He was given to Leeds United for a month .

National team

Ben Alnwick was called up on August 15, 2006 for the game against Moldova in the England U-21 national team, but was not used. Before that he played in other youth teams in the country. In 2007 he was nominated for the English team during the U-21 European Championship in the Netherlands, but was only number two there with Joe Hart behind Scott Carson and was not used. He made his debut in the friendly against Romania, where he came on for Joe Hart in the second half .
