The Bencomo Express is a catamaran - fast ferry of the shipping company Fred. Olsen Express , which entered service in 1999 for regular services between the Canary Islands .

Names

When it was put into service, the ferry was named Benchijigua Express , making it the first ship to bear this name. In the year of commissioning, on November 30, 1999, the fast ferry was renamed Bentayga Express . Since September 22nd, 2004 it has been called Bencomo Express .

commitment

Together with its sister ship Bentago Express , the Bencomo Express operates the route between Agaete on Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife .

technology

The Bencomo Express is one of six 96m class ships that Incat has built in Hobart , Tasmania . Two more ships from Fred. Olsen Express, Bentago Express and Bonanza Express also belong to this series.

Machine system and drive

The Bencomo Express machine system consists of four 18-cylinder diesel engines of the Caterpillar  18V3618 type . At a speed of 1,050 rpm, the engines develop an output of 7,200 kW (approx. 9,789  hp ) each  . Four Reintjes VLJ 6831 reduction gears are used for power transmission. The Bencomo Express is powered by four Lips 150/3 D water jet drives , which also enable control and reverse travel. The ship is equipped with two pairs of stabilizers to dampen the rolling movements .

Four Caterpillar 3406B diesel generators with 245 kW each generate the electrical energy as three-phase alternating current with 415 V, 50 Hz.

Furnishing

The Benccomo Express can hold up to 859 passengers. Because of the short crossing times, there are no passenger cabins. A track length of 330 meters is available in the loading deck for vehicle transport.
