history
Fred. Olsen Express was founded in 1974 as Ferry Gomera SA . The first ferry was named Benchijigua after a small town in the south of the island of La Gomera . As usual with Olsen ships, the first letter is also B .
The first route between La Gomera and Tenerife , opened on July 8, 1974, was initially used three times a day, the ferry journey lasted 80 minutes (50 minutes today). Five years later, a larger and faster ferry, the Bonanza, entered service . SES Sant 'Agata (later Gomera Express ) and Betancuria followed later . The connection between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura was established in 1989.
The period of high-speed multi-hulled ferries began in 1999 when the current Bencomo Express (then as Benchijigua Express) was put into service, and in the same year the Bonanza Express too . This was followed in 2000 by the current Bentago Express and in 2003 by the Bocayana Express . The Benchijigua Express entered service in 2005.
