Benedict Charles Franzetta

Benedict Charles Franzetta (born August 1, 1921 in East Liverpool , Ohio , † September 26, 2006 in Cleveland ) was an American Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Youngstown .

Life

Benedict Charles Franzetta attended Garfield Elementary School and East Liverpool High School, as well as the George Washington Night School in New York City and St. Charles College in Catonsville . During World War II , Franzetta worked as a civilian employee with the United States Army Corps of Engineers . He then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at St. Mary's Seminary in Cleveland. Franzetta received on 29 April 1950 in the St. Columba Cathedral by the Bishop of Youngstown, James Augustine McFadden , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

After his ordination, Benedict Charles Franzetta first worked as parish vicar of the parish of St. Anthony in Canton before he became parish vicar of the parish of St. Mary in Conneaut in 1957 . From 1958 to 1960 Franzetta was Vice Diocesan Chancellor of the Diocese of Youngstown. In 1960 he became director of the diocesan office for family pastoral care. Benedict Charles Franzetta was diocesan chancellor from 1965 to 1979 and from 1966 he was also responsible for finances. He was also the parish administrator of St. Joseph's Parish in Youngstown during this time . In 1979 Franzetta became Vicar General of the Diocese of Youngstown.

On July 26, 1980 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Opitergium and auxiliary bishop in Youngstown. The Bishop of Youngstown, James William Malone , donated to him on 4 September of the same year in St. Columba Cathedral , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Cincinnati , Joseph Bernardin , and the Bishop of Covington , William Anthony Hughes . As Auxiliary Bishop, Benedict Charles Franzetta served on the Council of Priests and the Diocesan Assets Council of the Diocese of Youngstown.

On September 4, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted Benedict Charles Franzetta's resignation due to reasons of age.
