Benedikt Bahr (* in Eutin ; † August 15, 1670 in Stralsund ) was a German educator, later also a lawyer and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund.

Life

Bahr was born in Eutin at the beginning of the 17th century as the son of Eutin's mayor Thomas Bahr and received his school education at the Katharineum in Lübeck . His studies were made possible by a scholarship from the Lübeck prince-bishop Johann . Bahr first matriculated at the University of Rostock at Easter 1633 and graduated from the University of Wittenberg as a “magister legens” in 1643 . The episcopal councilor Joh. Cassius recommended him to the Syndicus of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund, David Mevius, because of his thorough erudition and energy , and in 1643 he succeeded Andreas Helwig as Rector of the Sundisches Gymnasium . This gained considerable prestige during its rectorate, not least because of the reforms implemented at this school and the classical philology cultivated there.

He later took increasing interest in the study of Roman law and was in 1655 after a disputation with Peter Stephani in February 1655 with its inaugural dissertation "Ad legem praetoriam" on 8 March 1655 by the University of Greifswald Dr. doctorate in law. As a result of this second degree, he was elected Bahr councilor of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund on January 10, 1655. His former student Lorenz Bünsow from Wismar became one of his successors at the grammar school . As a councilor he was also Camerarius and provisional of the Heilgeistkirche in 1663 .
