Benjamin Bonzi (born June 9, 1996 in Nîmes ) is a French tennis player .

Career

Benjamin Bonzi was able to win his first Grand Slam title on the junior tour. In 2014 he won the double tournament of the French Open together with Quentin Halys after they were eliminated in the semifinals the previous year . In the final he defeated Lucas Miedler and Akira Santillan 6: 3, 6: 3. In 2014 Bonzi began playing tournaments on the lower-class Future Tour regularly . There he has already won seven singles and 20 doubles. On the Challenger Tour in 2017 he made it into a main field of the individual competition for the first time. In Bordeaux he played himself as a qualifier up to the semi-finals, in which he was defeated by Rogério Dutra da Silva in two sets.

Bonzi made his Grand Slam debut on the professional tour in 2017 at the French Open . He received a wildcard for the individual field and met the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the first round . Bonzi played out a 2-1 lead before Medvedev had to give up in the fourth set due to injury. In the second round he was finally eliminated from number 19 seeded Albert Ramos 2: 6, 2: 6, 1: 6. In October 2017 he achieved his best position in the world rankings with the 176th place .
