Berndt A. Skott

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Berndt A. Skott (* late February 1943 in Königsberg / East Prussia; † June 18, 2018 in Düsseldorf ) was a German cartoonist .

Life

Even as a child, Skott, according to his own statements, scribbled on every piece of paper he could get his hands on; for example his father's blueprints. Nevertheless, after leaving school he followed in his footsteps and learned to be a bricklayer. But he was also active in fireplace construction, was advertising manager in furniture retailing, small publisher, interior designer and lived and worked in Greece for several years.

In 1991 Newsweek finally published Skott's first cartoon; a commentary on the war in Yugoslavia. Two years later he was able to make a living from his work as a cartoonist. He did it as an autodidact who had never attended art academy.

Until his death in June 2018, he drew one or two caricatures a day. He drew for the Berliner Zeitung , Das Parlament , Focus , Handelsblatt , Kölner Stadtanzeiger , WAZ , Die Welt , Welt am Sonntag , Westdeutsche Zeitung , and free of charge for the homeless magazines: Bodo Straßenmagazin (Dortmund), Fifty-Fifty (Düsseldorf), Trott-war (Stuttgart) and since 2014 also for the website of Deutschlandfunk.

Skott worked according to the maxim "as little text as possible".

"Otherwise it would be a comic!"

- Berndt A. Skott

or

"If it's a caricature, I'm ready for any outrage!"

- Berndt A. Skott

Skott lived in Düsseldorf, Mülheim an der Ruhr and most recently in Kassel . He was the father of a daughter and a son.
