Bernhard Baier (water polo player)

Bernhard Baier (born August 12, 1912 in Hanover ; † April 26, 2003 there ) was a German water polo player and sports official.

Sporty

With the Wasserfreunde Hannover he was four times German champion. At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , he won silver with the German national water polo team. With the national team he was also runner-up in the 1938 European Championship. In 1952, at the age of 40, he was a member of the German squad at the 1952 Olympic Games .

From 1950 to 1960 he was President of the German Swimming Association , after which he was made Honorary President. In 1950, Baier was a founding member of the German Sports Association , of which he was a member of the executive committee from 1950 to 1962. He was also part of the advisory group to the former NOK boss Willi Daume and was a NOK member until his death. From 1956 to 1964 he was a member of the executive committee of the World Swimming Federation ( FINA ).

Professional and family

During his studies in 1933 he became a member of the Allemannia Heidelberg fraternity . The non-party lawyer was vice-president from 1961 to 1965 and president of the Hanover administrative district from 1973 to 1977 . From July 5, 1978 to August 31, 1982, he was State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior .

Baier was married to Gertrud Meyer (1914–1999), team Olympic champion in gymnastics in 1936 , since 1940 .

His grave is in the Engesohde city cemetery in Hanover.
