Bernhard Kampmann

Bernhard Kampmann (* 1957 in Braunschweig ) is a German diplomat . He has been the German Ambassador to Jordan since August 2020 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Kampman completed vocational training as an industrial clerk between 1976 and 1978 and then studied law , political science and international relations. After the first state examination in 1983, the legal clerkship followed from 1984 to 1985 .

Kampmann is married and has two children.

career

In 1985 he joined the Foreign Service and subsequently completed his training as attaché at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and in the State Minister's office there . From 1988 to 1990 he was employed at the embassy in Tunisia and at the embassy in the USA , before he was a consultant in the political department of the German Foreign Office between 1993 and 1996. After a subsequent assignment at the embassy in the People's Republic of China , Kampmann was deputy head of division in the Political Department of the Foreign Office in Berlin from 1999 to 2003 . In 2003 he became head of the press department at the embassy in France and, on his return from 2007 to 2010, took on the role of head of unit for European security and defense policy in the political department of the Foreign Office as a lecturer first class . He was then envoy at the embassy in Brazil from 2010 to 2013 .

In July 2013, Kampmann succeeded Christian Clages , who in turn became Ambassador to Lebanon , Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Senegal . As such, he was also accredited as ambassador to Gambia , Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde , based in Dakar. In 2016 he was replaced by Renate Schimkoreit .

In 2017, Kampmann was appointed acting charge d'affaires in South Africa, then served in the Planning Staff of the Federal Foreign Office as a consultant of the " German Institute of Global and Area Studies " and then worked from 2018 to 2020 as an inspector at the Foreign Office. In August 2020 he moved to Amman in Jordan as ambassador .
