Bernhard Landauer (born July 20, 1970 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian countertenor with the pitch Altus .

He made his first concert and stage experience as a soprano soloist with the Wilten Boys' Choir in Innsbruck and studied singing with Helene Karusso and Kurt Equiluz at the Vienna University of Music . He received further lessons from Karl-Heinz Jarius in Frankfurt am Main .

In addition to early music , Landauer also sings literature that is unusual for a countertenor. He sang Schubert's Winterreise , the Krämerspiegel by Richard Strauss , the Fyodor in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunow or the piece Kassandra by Iannis Xenakis, which was originally composed for a falsetto baritone . Contemporary music is an important part of his job. He was involved in world premieres by Alfred Schnittke , Giorgio Battistelli and other composers of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Landauer has performed in many European houses and worked with conductors and directors such as Philippe Arlaud , Brigitte Fassbaender , Achim Freyer , Thomas Hengelbrock , René Jacobs , The King's Consort , Ton Koopman , Harry Kupfer , David Pountney , Nicola Raab or Mstislaw Rostropowitsch and can be heard on over 70 CD recordings.

In 2014/15 he sang in a production of George Benjamin's opera Written on Skin at the Royal Stockholm Opera , in the pop opera You Us We All by Shara Worden in the sitcom opera series by the Austrian composer Bernhard Gander for the Bregenz Festival and the festival Vienna modern .

He has lived in Salzburg since 2000 .

Landauer is also a developer in the core team of the free, GNU / Linux-based operating system Manjaro.
