Bernhard Mrohs

Bernhard Mrohs (born September 20, 1949 in Regensburg ) is a German painter who also worked as a jazz musician.

Biographical

Bernhard Mrohs was born in Regensburg in 1949. After school and commercial training, he studied at the Conservatory in Nuremberg bass at Georg Hörtnagel . He was co-founder and bassist of the German-American quartet A Touch of Jazz , with whom he worked for almost ten years, and a member of the Ansbach Chamber Orchestra . In addition, he was a music teacher and musician in other formations and participated in many studio, radio and television productions.

In 1989 Mrohs ended his career as a jazz musician and moved to England , where he worked at Emerson College until 1992 . There he came into contact with painting and sculpture and continued his education in these art directions. In the following years he dealt with the synthesis of form and sound, gave improvisation courses, made sound objects, wrote articles for various European magazines, organized exhibitions, workshops and concerts.

In addition to his artistic activities, he ran a bookstore with a gallery and studio until 2010 . Since then, Bernhard Mrohs has devoted himself exclusively to painting. He lives and works in Freiburg .

His art is not attached to the object. It's abstract. For someone who has been influenced by improvised music, this almost goes without saying. Mrohs gestures in the non-representational. In his pictures he mostly concentrates on one or two central colors that determine the picture.
