Bert van Vlaanderen

Bert van Vlaanderen (actually Albert van Vlaanderen ; born November 25, 1964 in Tienhoven , municipality of Vianen ) is a former Dutch long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in the marathon .

In 1991 he won the Dutch championship title in his first marathon, finishing eighth in the Rotterdam Marathon . He also finished eighth at the Berlin Marathon that year. The following year he defended his national title in fourth place in Rotterdam and came 15th in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Barcelona .

Sixth in Rotterdam he won his third Dutch championship title in a row in 1993 and won the bronze medal in the marathon at the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993 with a time of 2:15:12 h behind Mark Plaatjes and Luketz Swartbooi .

After a fifth place in Berlin in 1994, he again became Dutch champion in 1995 when he came second in the Rotterdam Marathon. In his second Olympic marathon in Atlanta in 1996 , he finished 45th. In the same year he was fifth in the Amsterdam Marathon . In 1998, in sixth place in Rotterdam in the last marathon of his competitive sports career, he set his personal best with 2:10:27 h.

Bert van Vlaanderen is 1.80 m tall, weighed 60 kg when he was active and started for Hellas Utrecht. From 1993 to 1995 he was voted Dutch athlete of the year three times in a row.
