Bertil Östbo

Bertil Östbo (born June 8, 1916 in Trollhättan ; † September 18, 2007 in Sweden ) was a Swedish entrepreneur and art patron in Linz and Upper Austria .

Dipl.-Ing. After completing his studies, John David Bertil Östbo worked for eleven years as a chief engineer in large-scale Swedish industry before he began setting up his Bertil Östbo AG in 1954 and developing and supplying high-quality industrial and research products.

The close connection to VOEST and Linz also dates from this time , where he founded the Bertil Östbo Bruckner Foundation in 1974, administered by the City of Linz's cultural department.

In 1985, together with Ernst Balluf , he organized the major exhibition Brucknerland Austria in Södertälje (Sweden) with the participation of 25 visual artists.

In 1995 he established the first contacts between the city of Linz and the Swedish cities of Norrköping and Linköping , which eventually resulted in town twinning .

Bertil Östbo Bruckner Foundation

The purpose of the Bertil Östbo Bruckner Foundation is to intensify Bruckner care . Prizes are given to Austrian and international interpreters of compositions by Anton Bruckner, to Bruckner researchers and supporters of Bruckner's music, and attention is also paid to the Swedish-Austrian cultural exchange.

The foundation's board of trustees includes the mayor of the city of Linz, the governor of Upper Austria and the abbot of St. Florian Monastery .
