Besia ( Albanian  also  Besi , Serbian Бесиње Besinje ) is a village in Kosovo , it belongs to the municipality of Pristina .

history

It is believed that the place name goes back to an ancient fortress called Besiana . Besiana was located here or in the immediate vicinity and was one of several fortresses that, according to Prokop , were rebuilt by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century , in particular to protect the Eastern Roman Empire from barbarian invasions. This place name may have an etymological connection with the Thracian people of the Bessen .

Between 1927 and 1932, two families of Serbian colonists settled in Besia .
