Pristina is only around three kilometers away in the north. Other surrounding places are Gračanica in the south and Çagllavica in the west . To the east is Lake Badovac .

history

Hajvalia was founded in 1864 by Circassian immigrants. However, this ethnic group left Kosovo after a short time and settled in inner Turkey in 1877/1878 during the Serbian-Ottoman war . The field name Fusha e Çerkez′ve ("Circassian Field "), which is still preserved in the place, testifies to its former presence.

Immediately afterwards, Albanian refugees ( muhaxhir ) from the Toplica , who were expelled from Serbia during the war, settled here. Of the original 80 such families, half emigrated to Turkey after the Balkan War in 1913 , and a further part moved to surrounding villages. Then 33 families of Serb colonists from central Serbia and Montenegro settled in Hajvalia .

In 1953, the mining of mineral resources began right next to the site. The Hajvalia mine was in operation until 1990, but was then closed due to the financial and political situation in Kosovo. Today the mine is under water.
