Bettina Hering
Bettina Hering (born 1960 in Zurich ) is a Swiss dramaturge , director and artistic director . From 2012 she headed the Lower Austria State Theater , since 2017 she has been responsible for the festival 's spoken theater program as acting director of the Salzburg Festival.
life and work
Hering studied German at Peter von Matt , Philosophy and Psychological Anthropology and went on study trips to North and Central America, and Southeast Asia. She then worked as an assistant director at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt while Günther Rühle was managing director , with directors Peter Palitzsch , Einar Schleef and Hans-Jürgen Syberberg , among others .
From 1991 Hering worked as a freelance director and dramaturge, for example for the festival " Literatur im Nebel " in Heidenreichstein , which was founded by Johann Pichler , Robert Schindel and Rudolf Scholten . There she created text versions of major authors, such as Margaret Atwood , Louis Begley , Hans Magnus Enzensberger , Costa-Gavras , Ian McEwan , Amos Oz , Jorge Semprún and Ljudmila Ulitzkaja , and worked with well-known actors such as Senta Berger , Klaus Maria Brandauer , Corinna Harfouch , Michael Maertens , Eva Mattes , Birgit Minichmayr , Elisabeth Orth , Sophie Rois and Martin Wuttke .
Intendancy in St. Pölten
From August 2012, Hering was artistic director at the Lower Austria State Theater . She developed an innovative program, showed pieces that have so far rarely or never been seen in Austria - including My Mother Cleopatra by Attila Bartis , Mamma Medea by Tom Lanoye or family stories by the author Anna Jablonskaja , who was killed in a terrorist attack in Moscow -, and has so far won six nominations for the Nestroy Theater Prize . During her directorship, successful international productions such as Luk Perceval with Front , Herbert Fritsch with Nora or Karin Henkel with Amphitryon and his doppelganger performed in St. Pölten . Hering also promoted the participatory format of the citizen theater and organized readings and work reviews by authors such as Marlene Streeruwitz , Franz Schuh and Arno Geiger . The Landestheater was invited to the Radikal jung Festival in Munich and the Festival Internacional de Teatro Palco e Rua de Belo Horizonte in Brazil.
Acting director of the Salzburg Festival
On March 6, 2015, the Salzburg Festival and the designated artistic director Markus Hinterhäuser announced that Hering would be engaged as drama director for five years from the 2017 season. Her contract begins on June 1, 2016 for preparatory work. She is the first woman in this role. Marie Rötzer succeeded her as artistic director of the Lower Austria State Theater .
