Bettina Hering

Bettina Hering (born 1960 in Zurich ) is a Swiss dramaturge , director and artistic director . From 2012 she headed the Lower Austria State Theater , since 2017 she has been responsible for the festival 's spoken theater program as acting director of the Salzburg Festival.

life and work

Hering studied German at Peter von Matt , Philosophy and Psychological Anthropology and went on study trips to North and Central America, and Southeast Asia. She then worked as an assistant director at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt while Günther Rühle was managing director , with directors Peter Palitzsch , Einar Schleef and Hans-Jürgen Syberberg , among others .

Acting director of the Salzburg Festival

On March 6, 2015, the Salzburg Festival and the designated artistic director Markus Hinterhäuser announced that Hering would be engaged as drama director for five years from the 2017 season. Her contract begins on June 1, 2016 for preparatory work. She is the first woman in this role. Marie Rötzer succeeded her as artistic director of the Lower Austria State Theater .
