The Potsdam Regional Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction and the largest of the four regional courts in the state of Brandenburg . It is based in the state capital Potsdam .

The district courts of Brandenburg an der Havel , Luckenwalde , Nauen , Potsdam , Rathenow and Zossen belong to the judicial district . Until 2012, this also applied to the Königs Wusterhausen district court, which has been part of the Cottbus district court since 2013. The Brandenburg Higher Regional Court is superordinate to the Potsdam Regional Court.

Royal District Court Potsdam 1883

In 1722 the judiciary was subordinated to the High Court in Berlin. In 1808 a royal city court was established. In 1849 the city court became the royal district court . Theodor Storm worked here as an assessor from 1853 to 1857 . On May 22, 1883, Potsdam became the seat of a Royal District Court and a Royal District Court on the occasion of the Imperial Justice Constitution of October 1, 1879. In 1883 the District Court moved into its own building in a newly constructed building in Mauerstrasse (today's Hegelallee 8). In 1910 the district court moved into the rear building. In October 1945 a higher regional court was briefly set up in Potsdam. After the founding of the GDR were district courts Potsdam-Land and Potsdam City furnished. In 1993 the two were combined to form the Potsdam District Court , and the Potsdam District Court became the Regional Court.

Since 2008, the regional court has been housed in the listed building of the Potsdam NCOs' School , which has since been called the Potsdam Justice Center , and which also houses the district court and the constitutional court of the state of Brandenburg . From October 2017 to the end of February 2020, Ellen Chwolik-Lanfermann was the first woman to head the Potsdam Regional Court as president.
