Bhim Datta or Bhimdatta , formerly Mahendranagar (महेन्द्रनगर), is a city ( municipality ) in the far west of Nepal , about six kilometers from the border with India and the border river Mahakali at an altitude of 214 m .
Bhim Datta is the administrative seat of Kanchanpur District in Sudurpashchim Province .
Origin of name
The former name "Mahendranagar" after King Mahendra of Nepal was changed after the abolition of the monarchy in 2008. Bhim Datta Pant was a Nepalese freedom fighter over the past century.
Residents
Bhim Datta is one of the ten largest cities in the country. At the 1991 census it still had a population of 62,050. and in 2001 there were 80,839. At the 2011 census, Bhim Datta had a population of 104,599.
meaning
Bhim Datta is the economic center of the former Mahakali zone and an important border crossing point to India. There is a neglected airfield; former connections to Kathmandu. The city is the western terminus of the national east-west highway Mahendra Rajmarg , which is part of the Asian Highway 2 , and the starting point of spur roads into the Himalayas.
