Bible software
A Bible program is used to read and study the Bible on a computer or mobile device . It usually contains various Bible translations , sometimes also ( Bible ) lexicons , dictionaries or Bible commentaries .
features
In addition to displaying the text on the computer, most programs contain a large number of additional functions that are not available in a printed Bible. These include:
- Quickly find biblical passages after entering the Bible book and possibly chapter and verse
- the quick keyword search in the entire Bible text ( concordance function )
- Depending on the software, quick jumps to references in the Bible text to other Bible passages and possibly explanatory footnotes
- Depending on the software, the comparative display of several Bible translations parallel to one another
- Depending on the software, the comparative presentation of the four Gospels parallel to each other ( synopsis )
- Depending on the software, you can add your own comments, notes and favorites
- Depending on the software and the translation of the Bible, it is easier to find topics and biblical narratives thanks to the tables of contents of the individual Bible books , which are linked to the corresponding Bible texts
- Depending on the software, access to secondary literature such as B. Lexicons, Commentaries, and Bible Atlas
Overview of common Bible programs
When choosing a Bible program it should be noted that not every program is offered with the same selection of Bible texts. Almost more decisive than the choice of the program itself is therefore the decision which texts are to be used with it and whether the text is available for this program at all. For example, texts protected by copyright are usually only offered for commercial Bible programs. But the purpose of use can also play a role. Especially if you want to work with original language texts, a program that has been developed for scientific use is recommended.

On the Internet
As an alternative to installing it on a computer, many Bible translations can also be accessed from various websites . In some cases comparable functions are offered here, as is the case with Bible programs. In this regard, by far the furthest developed for the German-speaking area are the free internet platforms die-bibel.de and Bibleserver.com, on which the most important German Bible translations can be used.
